Advanced Reproductive Surgery
Advanced reproductive surgery is a highly specialized form of minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery aimed at addressing abnormalities of the uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries to optimize a woman’s chances of conception. Dr. Puthoff utilizes his training in surgical NaProTECHNOLOGY to provide his patients with an innovative approach to reproductive surgery.
At its core, reproductive surgery is restorative. Advanced reproductive surgery endeavors to preserve and repair reproductive organs, despite being far more complex than simply removing damaged or diseased tubes or ovaries. The primary goal is to restore normal reproductive function by correcting the underlying conditions causing infertility, recurrent miscarriage or other gynecologic problems.
From suture selection and instrumentation to surgical technique and the handling of tissues during procedures, every aspect of advanced reproductive surgery is carefully considered. In addition to correcting gynecologic issues, the objectives of our surgeries are to accelerate healing, ease recovery, and prevent post-operative inflammation and adhesions (or scar tissue), which may lead to pelvic pain and decreased fertility. This careful attention to adhesion prevention sets us apart from other gynecologic surgeons and is the hallmark of our approach to fertility-focused surgery. Despite the benefits of restorative reproductive surgery, many women are not presented the option of a corrective surgery during their infertility journey.
How our surgical approach differs from routine gynecologic surgery:
|VERITAS FERTILITY & SURGERY
||ROUTINE GYNECOLOGIC SURGERY
|Uses precision CO2 laser to remove endometriosis and pelvic adhesions (minimizing postoperative inflammation and scarring)
||Uses cauterization (or “fulguration”) to treat endometriosis and pelvic adhesions, known to cause inflammation and scarring
|Preserves healthy ovarian tissue by using microsurgical reconstructive techniques after cysts or adhesions are removed.
||Cauterizes ovarian tissue after cysts are removed (destroying healthy eggs and leading to decreased ovarian egg reserve) or completely removes ovaries which have cysts or adhesions.
|Uses microsurgical reconstruction of damaged fallopian tubes to allow them to function again.
||Removes even slightly abnormal fallopian tubes.
|Uses adhesion prevention measures such as:
- repair of pelvic peritoneum after excision of endometriosis
- specialized anti-adhesion fluids
- dissolving membranes
- ovarian suspension techniques
- temporary placement of a Gore-Tex membrane around tubes and ovaries
|Spends little time worrying about the pelvic adhesions that may form as a result of surgery.
Our specialized approach to reproductive surgery and the innovative techniques of NaProTECHNOLOGY provide women with treatment options that promote improved fertility and lasting wellness. In combination with targeted medications, our patients have a 70-75% chance of achieving pregnancy after underlying conditions are corrected. These results are far better than even multiple cycles of IVF – and far less expensive than IVF. At Veritas Fertility & Surgery, it is our privilege and our responsibility to provide patients with the best and most effective care available.
